Notre-Dame de Sénanque, an Abbey steeped in history

The Abbey of Notre-Dame de Sénanque is located in the Vaucluse (84) in the heart of the pretty village of Gordes. It is a Cistercian monastery founded in 1148. It is today part of the „Three Provençal Sisters“ with the abbey of Silvacane and the abbey of Thoronet. Notre-Dame de Sénanque is now the priory of Lérins Abbey, a monastery located in the Vallon. It is still occupied by a community of Cistercian monks. Notre-Dame de Sénanque possesses in particular a Romanesque cloister, with galleries made of discharge arches. Today, part of this abbey is visited (dormitories of the monks, abbey, cloister or the chapter house, the other part regularly houses the exhibitions of the association incitement to creation, as well as a museum and a shop of memories.
