It is still associated with the tales and legends of the 48 AD.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-fc-gut-lire-plus fc-desk\"><p class=\"has-text-align-left btn-lire-plus\">Read more<\/p><div class=\"content-lire-plus\">\n<p>According to legend, Saint Martha of Bethany arrived in Tarascon, where the Tarasque, a terrible amphibian monster, was rampant. The saint courageously tames the beast. Since then, many pilgrims have visited the royal collegiate church of Sainte-Marthe, built in his honor near the Ch\u00e2teau du Roi Ren\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Ch\u00e2teau du Roi Ren\u00e9, built in 1400, is still exceptionally well preserved. It&#8217;s one of the most beautiful medieval castles in France. Transformed into a prison in the 16th century, it was the scene of many bloody events, notably during the French Revolution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The town inspired other tales, in particular that of Tartarin de Tarascon, the famous character created by Alphonse Daudet in 1872.
