A 15,000 m\u00b2 masterpiece, the Palais des Papes in Avignon is the largest medieval fortress and the largest Gothic palace in Europe. The Palace is so imposing that it can be seen from the Alpilles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Construction of the Palais des Papes took less than 20 years, from 1335 to 1352.
