Saint-B\u00e9n\u00e9zet Bridge<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Pont d’Avignon is located, as its name suggests, in the town of Avignon in the Vaucluse d\u00e9partement (84).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Pont d’Avignon, also known as the Pont Saint-B\u00e9n\u00e8zet, was built between 1177 and 1185. It is one of the world’s best-known monuments, thanks to a song sung by children all over the world. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and welcomes almost 400,000 visitors a year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Legend has it that little Beno\u00eet, better known as B\u00e9n\u00e9zet, received a divine order to build a bridge in Avignon. In 1669, a flood on the Rh\u00f4ne destroyed several of the bridge’s arches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
